At Ivy Lemon Studio, every pattern begins with a walk in the countryside, a grounding and calming start to the day and my favourite cup of green tea! As a surface pattern design studio with over 20 years of creative experience, we’ve developed collections for global brands, led product development teams, and launched designs across kidswear, homeware, and stationery.
But no matter how technical or commercial the brief, our inspiration always comes back to something simple: nature.
Based in the heart of Devon, we’re surrounded by beautiful countryside, tangled hedgerows, and ever-changing skies. These landscapes don’t just inspire the subject matter of our work – they help to shape our creative practice.
Jane Addis – Studio Founder
With a background in textiles and a career spanning two decades, I’ve worked across design management, product development, manufacturing and global licensing. I understand what it takes to create commercially successful patterns – and how to make them feel fun, considered, and full of character.
I love blending artistic instinct with market insight. Sketching by hand, working either digitally in Procreate on my iPad Pro or more traditionally in watercolour and gouache, I always begin with great inspiration. The countryside around me feeds that process constantly – from my countryside walks with my dog to seaside swims with my family, Devon is always at the centre of my creative practice.

Finding Magic in the Everyday
Living in Devon means inspiration is never far away. My mornings start with a walk through my local countryside or a visit to the coast, phone in hand, ready to catch a moment of colour or texture. These everyday sights often become the foundation of my creative practice – whether it’s the flora and fauna found in my local morning walk, the ripple of the river Lemon, or the inspirational drama of the moors.
This close connection to the land allows me to create patterns that are directly inspired by my surroundings. They aren’t trend-chasing- they’re rooted in my love of the South West, the nature that envelops me and the landscapes that move me.

My Practice
Fun is at the heart of everything I design. Whether I’m creating for a nursery line, a seasonal stationery collection, or a bespoke homeware range, I want the pattern to make people smile. That often comes through in colour choices inspired by the natural world; sun-warm ochres, earthy greens, soft lilacs – or in motifs that echo playful wildlife or nostalgic countryside blooms.
Each design aims to bring a little bit of that Devon calm and creativity into people’s lives and homes.
